Tebboune: Discussions with South African President Highlight Common Ground Between Two Nations

On Friday, Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stated that his talks with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed a shared perspective between Algeria and South Africa, emphasizing the importance of political solutions to crises while avoiding external interference.
In a joint press statement following their discussions at the Presidential Palace, President Tebboune highlighted that President Ramaphosa’s visit to Algeria “reflects the unique historical relations between our two countries, founded on close cooperation,” and “confirms the strategic nature of the relationship between Algeria and South Africa.”
These discussions enabled both leaders to “conduct a comprehensive assessment of our bilateral relations and explore ways to enhance them in accordance with our mutual political will and the status of both countries on the African and international stages,” the President noted.
He also mentioned that the Algeria-South Africa Business Forum has facilitated the establishment of “bridges of economic cooperation between the business sectors of both nations,” stating that “the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement and five memorandums of understanding aims to further strengthen this aspect.”
Additionally, the President indicated that he engaged in an extensive dialogue with President Ramaphosa regarding current issues, particularly the ongoing aggression against Gaza and Lebanon by Zionist forces.
Praising South Africa’s actions before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the President reaffirmed that “Algeria fully supports this initiative.”
He specified that their discussions also encompassed the Western Sahara issue, reiterating “the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.” Furthermore, he and his South African counterpart exchanged views on recent developments in the Sahel, Libya, and Central Africa.
In conclusion, he asserted that the discussions underscored “a convergence of views between the two countries that prioritize political solutions free from external interference.”
