China Plans Advanced Beidou Navigation System by 2035

China has set a goal to develop the next-generation Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS) by 2035, incorporating advanced technologies to offer higher-quality services and more powerful capabilities. The plan was presented during a symposium in Beijing, where officials outlined the vision for BDS’s future development. The new system will build on the Beidou-3 framework, with its launch expected around 2029 and the full rollout by 2035.
The Beidou-3 system, which was officially launched in 2020, has already surpassed the accuracy of other global navigation systems such as Russia’s GLONASS and the U.S.’s GPS, according to Russian space officials. The new generation of Beidou is expected to solidify China’s leadership in the global satellite navigation sector.
