Lebanon: Calls for peace “go unheeded” under the beating drums of war

BEIRUT – The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, stated on Monday that calls for peace have gone unheeded as a harsh reality looms over the affected communities, reported the National News Agency (NNA).

“Lost under the beating drums of war is the voice of the silent majority: the women, men, and children who find themselves, yet again, helpless facing an uncertain future.” Hennis wrote on X.

The Zionist entity continues its bombardment campaign against Lebanon without any letup since last Monday, resulting in over 700 martyrs and nearly 2,200 injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Lebanese Health Minister Firas Al-Abyad also announced that 1,640 citizens, including 104 children and 194 women, have been martyred since October 2023.
