Paralympics 2024: Skander Athmani Wins Gold in Men’s T13 400m

Algerian sprinter Skander Djamil Athmani secured the gold medal in the men’s 400 meters T13 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, finishing with a time of 47.43 seconds during the final held Thursday morning at the Stade de France.
On the podium, Athmani surpassed Japan’s Fukunaga Ryota, who earned silver with a time of 48.07 seconds, and Colombia’s Bermudez Villar, who took bronze with a time of 48.83 seconds.
This victory marks Athmani’s second gold medal at these Games, following his triumph in the 100 meters T13 event, where he finished in 10.42 seconds on Sunday.
With this achievement, Algeria has now amassed five medals at the Games so far, including two golds—one from Athmani in the 100 meters (T13) and another from Nassima Saïfi in the women’s discus throw (F57)—alongside two bronze medals earned by Ahmed Mehideb in the club throw (F32) and Lynda Hamri in the women’s long jump (T12).
On this seventh day of the 17th Paralympic Games 2024, Algerians Safia Djelal and Nassima Saïfi are scheduled to compete in the finals of the women’s shot put (F57) event. World record holder Safia Djelal, who has thrown 11.62 meters in her category (F57), is favored in this competition as she aims to defend her title.
