Telegram founder Durov arrested in France for unspecified reasons; Russia seeks clarification

PARIS – The Russian Telegram founder Pavel Durov has been detained in France at Le Bourget Airport, the LCI news channel reported.

In this regard, the Russian Embassy in France has requested clarification from the French authorities, demanded consular access, and called for the protection of Durov’s rights.

On one hand, the Paris police have not confirmed the information about the detention. However, U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson stated on X that Durov was arrested for allegedly refusing to “censor the truth” as ordered by governments and intelligence agencies.

In reaction to Pavel Durov’s detention, Elon Musk satirically envisioned a future where European punitive measures could extend to a death sentence for liking a particular post.

“POV: It’s 2030 in Europe and you’re being executed for liking a meme,” Musk wrote on X.
