Jordan’s King Dissolves Parliament Ahead of New Elections

Jordanian King Abdullah II dissolved on Thursday the country’s lower house of parliament ahead of new parliamentary elections scheduled for September.
The announcement was made in a royal decree issued by the monarch.
According to the Constitution, parliamentary elections must be held within four months before the end of the current parliament’s term, which concludes in November.
The new elections are set for September 10 and will be conducted under a revised election law. This law allocates 41 of the 138 seats in the assembly to political parties.
Jordan’s bicameral parliament consists of the Senate, whose members are appointed by the king, and an elected lower chamber known as the House of Representatives.
