“We will remain for the US, if not an enemy, then definitely an opponent,” FM Lavrov says

MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said U.S. President Joe Biden’s comments about Washington’s openness to nuclear arms talks with Russia were meant to help Kamala Harris’ presidential election campaign, the TASS news agency reported on Saturday.
“Regardless of the outcome of the elections, we will remain for the United States, if not an enemy, then definitely an opponent. In any case, a competitor,” Lavrov said in an interview with the AIF.
In another context, US President Joe Biden told reporters on Friday that there was no consensus for giving Ukraine long-range weapons in line with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s request to Western nations to conduct deeper strikes into Russia.
Under President Zelenskiy’s plan, Kiev should be immediately invited to NATO, provided with more military aid, and granted permission to deploy long-range weapons deeper within the Russian territory.
Accordingly, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Ukraine of pushing NATO into a direct conflict with Russia.
