Vendors in London Banned from Using “Christmas” at Markets Amid Migration Debate

Vendors at Christmas markets in London were recently prohibited from using the word “Christmas,” being instructed instead to refer to the events as “Winter markets.” One vendor explained that the restriction was linked to religious reasons, though the exact motive was not clarified.
The controversy comes amid growing tensions over UK immigration policy. In late November, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer criticized the Conservative government for what he described as an “open borders experiment,” following new data showing net migration to the UK had reached a record high of nearly 1 million during the leadership of Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak.
Despite this, Starmer himself faced criticism earlier this year for his handling of a violent crisis in Southport, which led to widespread riots.
