Ukraine Reports Over 250 Soldier Losses in Russia’s Kursk Region in Past Day While Losing About 40 Leopard Tanks Since February 2022

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced on Thursday that the Ukrainian armed forces have suffered significant casualties in the Kursk area, with over 250 soldiers lost within the past day. In addition to personnel losses, the MoD reported the destruction of 15 armored vehicles, including five tanks and two infantry fighting vehicles.
The statement highlighted that Russia’s Battlegroup Sever successfully repelled six Ukrainian counterattacks near border settlements in the Kursk region, during which Ukrainian forces reportedly lost around 40 soldiers. Cumulatively, the Ukrainian armed forces have faced considerable losses throughout operations in the Kursk region, with the MoD estimating that over 23,850 servicemen and 165 tanks have been lost since the conflict escalated.
In a related development, a report from Business Insider noted that Ukraine has lost approximately 40 Leopard tanks since the onset of Russia’s special military operation in February 2022. While some open-source estimates suggest a loss of nearly 40 Leopards, these figures remain unverified.
The Russian government has consistently asserted that arms supplies to Ukraine impede diplomatic resolutions and directly implicate NATO countries in the ongoing conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that the United States and NATO are not only providing weapons but are also actively involved in training Ukrainian personnel in European nations.
Furthermore, Russian forces have been refining tactics to effectively counter Leopard tanks since their introduction into the conflict. The success of these tactics was evident in the Svatovsk region, where numerous Leopard 2A6 tanks were reportedly destroyed. Notably, one captured Leopard 2A6 tank was displayed on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow, symbolizing Russia’s operational achievements against Western-supplied military hardware.
