Uganda: Health ministry reports rising cases of mpox

KAMPALA – Ugandan Health Minister Jane Aceng warned on Saturday that mpox (monkeypox) is spreading rapidly throughout the country, according to local media reports.
The minister noted a swift spread of the disease across the nation, with at least 19 regions affected since the outbreak began in early August.
According to Ms. Aceng, the number of confirmed cases has sharply increased in recent days. Accordingly, she urged local authorities to implement infection control measures.
On October 23, Uganda confirmed its first death from mpox, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 164.
