Trump Signs Executive Order to Withdraw the U.S. from Multiple UN Bodies

WASHINGTON, Feb 5, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday aimed at withdrawing the United States from several United Nations bodies and reassessing Washington’s financial contributions to the international organization based in New York.
The order specifically withdraws the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council, of which the country is currently only an observer, not a full member.
Additionally, the decree extends the suspension of all American funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).
It also calls for a review of U.S. involvement in UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Upon returning to the White House on January 20, Donald Trump had already signed an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization (WHO), an agency he had previously criticized for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
