Trump Signs Bill Requiring Release of Epstein Files as Public Distrust Grows

US President Donald Trump has signed a bill obligating the US Justice Department to release all files related to Jeffrey Epstein, announcing the move on his Truth Social account. Trump emphasized that Epstein had been charged under his own administration in 2019, asserting that the disgraced financier had long-standing ties to Democratic politicians. The president stressed that Epstein “was a lifelong Democrat” and had donated substantial sums to Democratic figures, pointing to what he described as deep associations with well-known members of the party’s elite.

The decision follows renewed attention on the Epstein case after Republicans on the House Oversight Committee released more than 20,000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate. This release came shortly after Democratic lawmakers published emails referencing Trump, intensifying political tensions surrounding the scandal. At the same time, Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 38%—its lowest point since his January 2025 inauguration—according to a Reuters-Ipsos poll.

The survey indicates widespread public dissatisfaction with rising prices and what many perceive as mishandling of the Epstein investigation. Only 20% of respondents believe authorities are conducting the probe properly, while a striking 70% suspect the administration is hiding information about Epstein’s network of associates.
