Russia Reaffirms Its Support for Iran Amid Mideast Tensions

Russia has emphasized its commitment to deepening relations with Iran, stating that it has no intention of abandoning its strategic partner. Speaking on Tuesday, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations in various fields. “We are developing cooperation with Iran in a variety of areas. We intend to do this further,” Peskov told CNBC.

Amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, Peskov also emphasized Russia’s diplomatic efforts, noting, “We maintain a dialogue with all parties involved in the conflict in [West Asia].”

On the same day, Iranian President Pezeshkian departed for Russia to attend the 16th BRICS Summit, set to take place in Kazan on Wednesday and Thursday. In addition to participating in the summit, President Pezeshkian is expected to hold bilateral meetings with key leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping. With the presence of many world leaders at the summit, several high-level meetings are scheduled for Iran, further solidifying its role in the BRICS+ framework and its strategic ties with Russia.
