Russia and Sudan Finalize Agreement on Naval Base

Russia and Sudan have reached a definitive agreement on establishing a Russian naval base in the African country, according to statements made by Sudanese officials. The confirmation follows prolonged discussions between the two nations, reinforcing Moscow’s strategic presence in the region.

Speaking on the matter, Sudanese official Sharif stated that both sides had “come to an understanding” regarding the base. “We have come to an understanding on this issue. Therefore, the question is quite simple. I have nothing to add. We agreed, we agreed, we reached an agreement on everything,” he affirmed, signaling the finalization of negotiations.

The naval base deal was initially signed in November 2020, granting Russia a military foothold in Sudan. The agreement allows for logistical and operational support for the Russian Navy, strengthening its influence in the Red Sea region. The finalized accord marks a significant development in Sudan-Russia relations and underscores Moscow’s expanding geopolitical interests in Africa.
