Russia Accuses Ukraine of Violating US-Brokered Moratorium on Energy Strikes

Russia on Thursday accused Ukraine of violating a US-brokered agreement halting attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, following recent talks in Saudi Arabia. The Russian Defense Ministry said Kyiv had struck energy facilities in Belgorod and Kursk, as well as oil sites in Russian-controlled Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia. Moscow argued that Ukraine’s alleged actions prove its inability to honor agreements aimed at resolving the conflict.

Ukraine’s General Staff denied the accusations, insisting its military strictly adheres to the moratorium and only targets military objectives. It accused Russia of fabricating reports to shift blame. Kyiv also pointed to Russian violations, alleging attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities in Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson.

The exchange of accusations underscores ongoing tensions despite diplomatic efforts. Both sides have repeatedly blamed each other for breaking the ceasefire on energy infrastructure, raising doubts about the effectiveness of the US-mediated agreements.
