Mozambique: Daniel Chapo, Ruling Party Candidate, Wins Presidential Election

Daniel Chapo, the candidate from the ruling Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), has been officially declared the winner of the presidential election held on October 9 by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

At 47 years old, Daniel Chapo will succeed outgoing President Filipe Nyusi, who has completed the maximum two terms allowed by the constitution.

On Thursday, the CNE announced that Daniel Chapo secured 71% of the votes, defeating his main opponent, Venancio Mondlane of the Podemos party, who garnered just 20%. The commission also reported a voter turnout of 43.48%.
