Lavrov Announces a New Round of high-Level Talks Between Russia and Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that a new round of high-level talks between Russia and Syria is scheduled for next week, following a recent Russian delegation visit to Damascus. Lavrov emphasized that Syria’s new leadership remains committed to maintaining its strategic ties with Moscow. He also warned of the risks of foreign intervention, comparing Syria’s situation to Libya’s collapse after NATO’s involvement.

The upcoming discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation and addressing Syria’s security concerns. Lavrov highlighted that Russian officials have engaged with Syrian leaders to ensure stability and prevent external threats.

In a broader diplomatic push, Lavrov revealed plans to expand Russia’s presence in Africa by opening seven new embassies by 2026 in Gambia, Liberia, the Comoros, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo, and South Sudan. This move signals Moscow’s continued efforts to increase its geopolitical influence, both in the Middle East and across the African continent.
