Kiev Faces Steady Combat Losses in 2024, With Over 593,410 Troops Lost

According to Sputnik’s calculations based on the Russian Defense Ministry’s weekly reports, Ukraine experienced significant losses throughout 2024, with the number of soldiers killed or wounded steadily increasing.
In the early months of 2024, Kiev was losing approximately 4,000 soldiers per week. By March, that figure had risen to 7,000, before experiencing a slight decline in the following weeks.
However, the losses sharply escalated again in late May, when Ukrainian casualties surged to more than 10,000 per week. This pattern continued for the remainder of the year, with losses remaining at consistently high levels.
In March, Ukrainian forces attempted to cross the Russian border into Belgorod and Kursk regions, resulting in an additional loss of around 3,000 troops, as calculated by Sputnik.
In August, following Ukraine’s attack on Russia’s Kursk region, combat losses further intensified. The most significant losses occurred between October 26 and November 1, when approximately 17,000 Ukrainian soldiers were reported as casualties, marking the highest weekly toll of the year.
The sharp increase in Ukrainian military losses highlights the ongoing and escalating nature of the conflict.
