Iran Rejects EU Accusations, Slams Sanctions as Illegal and Unjustified

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has dismissed recent accusations leveled against Tehran during a European Union foreign ministers’ meeting and strongly condemned the imposition of new sanctions on Iranian figures, calling the move unlawful and baseless.
Baqaei’s remarks came as tensions continue to rise between Iran and Western powers over regional policies and Tehran’s support for the Palestinian cause. “These sanctions are part of a broader attempt to deflect attention from the real crimes being committed in Gaza,” he said, criticizing the EU for ignoring the Zionist entity’s ongoing violations of international law.
The spokesperson also reiterated Iran’s stance against U.S. sanctions targeting Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Palestine, and accused Washington of trying to silence criticism of the Zionist entity’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, where over 58,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.
