Ghana: Police Arrests 97 Suspects in Post-Election Violence

The Ghanaian police have arrested 97 individuals in connection with post-election violence in the country, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

The police reported that these suspects were detained for various offenses committed following the national elections, including looting and vandalism of government property. They are currently in custody awaiting further investigation.

The police service has assured the public that various security agencies are dedicated to maintaining peace and security throughout the nation.

Ghanaians cast their votes on December 7 to elect a new president and 276 members of parliament. John Dramani Mahama from the National Democratic Congress (opposition) emerged victorious in the presidential race, securing 56.55% of the votes. Mahama is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 7, 2025.
