Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral talks on Sunday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, as part of his participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting focused, through consultation and coordination, on developments in the Western Sahara issue in preparation for upcoming UN-related events in this regard, whether at the level of the General Assembly or the Security Council, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The meeting also allowed for a review of what has marked the general debate of the General Assembly with positions supporting the inalienable and non-derogable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, in accordance with the principles of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, the statement said.
