Chinese Spring Festival Celebrations Light up Algiers Opera House

A Chinese artistic gala was held on Wednesday evening at the “Boualem Bessaih” Opera House in Algiers to mark the Chinese “Spring Festival,” which coincides with the Chinese New Year.

The event was attended by the Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, China’s Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, as well as a large audience of all ages, who enjoyed, over the course of nearly two hours, a variety of musical pieces and traditional dance performances presented by the Chinese “Ganzhou” troupe.

On this occasion, Bendouda stated that the artistic performance staged by the “Ganzhou” troupe in Algiers was “a sincere expression of the depth of the relations between Algeria and China, relations founded on friendship, mutual respect, exchange, and constructive cooperation, and which extend across political, economic, and cultural fields.” The Algiers audience was treated to refined performances by the Chinese “Ganzhou” troupe, a group renowned for preserving China’s authentic musical and artistic heritage. The program included traditional musical pieces distinguished by striking visual effects that accompanied the choreographed artistic scenes of the event.

Inspired by Chinese popular folklore, these performances reflected the diversity and richness of China’s cultural legacy, along with the symbolism tied to nature and the celebration of life.

The Chinese Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, is considered one of the most important and oldest traditional celebrations in China. It symbolizes renewal, new beginnings, family reunions, and the promotion of optimism.

The festival is also closely linked to ancestral artistic and cultural rituals, including music and folk dances, which serve as a means of expressing Chinese cultural identity.

According to the organizers, this event was held as part of the cultural cooperation between Algeria and the People’s Republic of China, in coordination with the “Boualem Bessaih” Opera House and China’s embassy in Algeria.
