
ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, received on Tuesday, in Algiers, a delegation of the Chinese company “Sinopec” led by its senior vice-president, Niu Xuanwen, who underlined the company’s willingness to strengthen its cooperation with Sonatrach, the ministry said in a press release.
The meeting, which was held at the ministry’s headquarters, in the presence of its executives and Sonatrach CEO, Rachid Hachichi, comes within the framework of strengthening the strategic relations between Algeria and China in energy.
The two sides reviewed the state of cooperation and partnership between Sonatrach and Sinopec and affirmed its solidity and strategic importance.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss Sinopec’s business opportunities and investment prospects in Algeria, notably in the fields of research, exploration, production and transportation of hydrocarbons, according to the source.
During the discussions, the Minister of State emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between “Sonatrach” and “Sinopec” to include new areas in the oil and gas industry, pointing out that “the cooperative relations between Algeria and China are a successful model for constructive and innovative partnerships.”
He also underscored that the new laws governing the hydrocarbon and investment sectors in Algeria offer great opportunities to global companies, foremost among them “Sinopec,” to strengthen their presence and develop their projects in the Algerian market, according to the source.
For his part, Xuanwen welcomed the quality of relations between Algeria and China, reflected by the solid partnership between “Sonatrach” and “Sinopec,” affirming that the Chinese company “welcomes this strategic relationship and aims to strengthen its cooperation with Sonatrach, particularly thanks to the promising opportunities offered by the Algerian energy sector.”
