Amnesty Calls for War Crimes Investigation into Zionist Attacks on Healthcare in Lebanon

Amnesty International has called for an investigation into Zionist attacks on ambulances, rescue workers, and healthcare facilities in Lebanon, classifying them as potential war crimes.
“The repeated illegal attacks by the Zionist army on healthcare facilities, ambulances, and medical workers—who are protected under international law—must be investigated as war crimes,” Amnesty stated in a Wednesday press release.
The organization urged the Lebanese government to grant the International Criminal Court (ICC) jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute crimes under the Rome Statute committed on Lebanese soil and to ensure victims’ right to legal recourse.
In December, Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad reported 67 attacks on hospitals, including 40 direct strikes, resulting in 16 deaths.
“There have been 238 attacks on rescue organizations, causing 206 deaths,” he added, noting that 256 emergency vehicles, including fire trucks and ambulances, were also targeted.
Amnesty revealed that it investigated four Zionist attacks on healthcare facilities and vehicles in Beirut and southern Lebanon between October 3 and 9, 2024. These attacks killed 19 healthcare workers, injured 11 others, and destroyed multiple ambulances and two medical facilities.
According to Lebanese authorities, more than 4,000 people have been killed in over a year of Zionist aggression, with reconstruction costs estimated to exceed $10 billion.
