Algeria’s FM Secretary General Meets French Ambassador on Military Exercise Concerns

The Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Lounès Magramane, received the French Ambassador to Algeria, Stéphane Romatet, on Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters, as reported in a press release.

“The purpose of this meeting was to emphasize the seriousness of the Franco-Moroccan military exercise project, ‘CHERGUI 2025,’ which bears a particularly evocative name and is set to take place next September in Er-Rachidia, not far from the Algerian border,” the statement noted.

“The Secretary General made it clear that Algeria views this exercise as a provocative act against the country. He further remarked that such an action would undoubtedly exacerbate the ongoing crisis in Algerian-French relations and increase tensions between the two nations,” the source added.

“While urging the French Ambassador to seek the necessary clarifications regarding this matter, the Secretary General invited him to convey Algeria’s position, as articulated during their discussion, to his superiors,” the statement concluded.
