Algeria’s Presidential Election: Polls Close, Vote Counting Begins

Polling stations for the Algeria’s presidential election were closed nationwide on Saturday at 8:00 PM Algerian time, signaling the conclusion of the voting process.
The counting of ballots began immediately, overseen by representatives from the three candidates. The Independent National Electoral Authority in Algeria had granted all provincial delegation coordinators the authority to extend the closing time of polling stations across the country to 8:00 PM, instead of the previously scheduled 7:00 PM, following a review of their requests.
By 5:00 PM, national voter turnout was reported at 26.45%, with 18.31% participation among the national community residing abroad.
In this presidential election, three candidates are vying for the position: Youcef Aouchiche from the Front of Socialist Forces, independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and Abdelali Hassani Cherif from the Movement of Society for Peace.
