Algerian Minister of Energy Discusses Cooperation Opportunities with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister

ALGIERS, February 14, 2025 – Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, met on Thursday with Alexandra Papadopoulou, the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister. The two officials discussed potential cooperation and partnership opportunities between their countries in the energy and mining sectors, as stated by the ministry.
The meeting was held at the ministry’s headquarters and included Karima Tafer, Secretary of State for Mines, Noureddine Yassaâ, Secretary of State for Renewable Energies, and several other ministry officials.
During the meeting, both parties reviewed the current status of bilateral cooperation and explored ways to enhance it, particularly within the realms of energy, mining, and renewable energies.
They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy collaboration by seeking various opportunities, especially in liquefied natural gas (LNG) marketing and new renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic solar energy—including decentralized solar plants—and wind energy, while utilizing Greek expertise in these fields.
Additionally, the discussions covered potential partnerships in geological studies, research, exploration, and the exploitation of mineral resources. Emphasis was placed on developing and processing marble, phosphate, iron ores, feldspar, as well as critical and strategic metals essential for sustainable economic development, according to the same source.
In this context, the Minister of State noted that Papadopoulou’s visit reflects a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation opportunities between the two nations. He underscored the importance of identifying priorities for collaboration and investment in energy and mining projects to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.
For her part, the Greek Deputy Minister expressed her satisfaction with the quality of relations between the two countries, reiterating Greece’s willingness to enhance and develop bilateral cooperation.
She also emphasized the need to intensify consultations in economic and commercial areas to serve the common interests of both nations, as reported in the statement.
