On Thursday, Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and Carlos Eduardo Diaz Moreira, the Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to Algeria, co-hosted the inauguration ceremony for the Nicaraguan Embassy in Algeria.
In his address during the ceremony, Attaf remarked that the establishment of the Nicaraguan Embassy in Algiers follows closely on the heels of the official opening of the Algerian Embassy in Managua just months prior. He stated, “This diplomatic milestone reflects a very positive dynamic characterizing the fraternal ties, solidarity, and cooperation between Algeria and Nicaragua.”
Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his counterpart Daniel Ortega, both nations reaffirm their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, exploring new opportunities for cooperation, and laying down new foundations for deeper economic collaboration and political alignment, he added.
Attaf further highlighted that the inauguration of the Nicaraguan Embassy celebrates over 43 years of solidarity in championing just causes globally. It also fosters South-South cooperation, particularly between Africa and Latin America, aimed at advancing the collective aspirations of the Global South within the Group of 77 + China and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), as well as promoting a new international order grounded in equity, justice, and inclusiveness.
“We take great pride in our shared commitment to these ideals and principles, which have shaped our international identities—principles that were born from our significant historical struggles, such as Algeria’s fight against colonialism and Nicaragua’s battle against dictatorship,” he asserted.
In his remarks, the Nicaraguan Ambassador to Algeria reflected on the deep-rooted relationship between Algeria and Nicaragua, anchored in solidarity against colonialism and imperialism, alongside unwavering support for the Sahrawi people and the courageous Palestinian populace facing genocide inflicted by the Zionist entity.
He noted, “Nicaragua acknowledges and aligns with Algeria’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire and endeavors toward the peace that our peoples yearn for, including the full and complete recognition of the Palestinian state at the UN and decolonization in Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa.”
In this context, Moreira emphasized that “the peoples of Nicaragua and Algeria, who share the dignity of victorious nations that have triumphed over oppression, colonialism, imperialism, and neofascism, stand united, drawing strength from the legacy of our heroes and martyrs. These individuals taught us the value of building peace, and today we honor them through this inauguration.”
