Algerian ‘ALNAFT’ Hosts Delegation from Chinese ‘Sinopec’

A delegation from the Chinese company Sinopec was welcomed on Thursday in Algiers by the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT), in the presence of its president, Mourad Beldjehem. The meeting aimed to discuss the next steps regarding the contract signed between Sonatrach and Sinopec for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the Hassi Berkane North exploration area, as stated in an ALNAFT press release.

“During this meeting, both parties reviewed upcoming operational plans, particularly focusing on the scheduling of exploration activities and the assessment of oil and gas potential in the region. They also discussed best practices in exploration technologies and sustainable development, ensuring compliance with existing environmental standards,” the statement added.

Beldjehem noted that this occasion marks “a new phase in strengthening energy cooperation between Algeria and China.” He reiterated ALNAFT’s commitment to supporting this ambitious project, which aligns with national objectives to maximize the valorization of hydrocarbon resources and attract foreign investments in the energy sector, according to ALNAFT.

The visit of this high-level Sinopec delegation signifies “a new milestone in enhancing bilateral relations between Algeria and China, while opening promising prospects for the development of Algeria’s energy sector.” This follows the recent signing of a strategic contract between Sonatrach and Sinopec for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the Hassi Berkane North area.

In accordance with the current hydrocarbon law, the contract’s signing occurred after ALNAFT granted the license for the Hassi Berkane North perimeter to Sonatrach and Sinopec on February 19, 2025.
