Algeria Summons French Ambassador Over ‘Mistreatment’ of Nationals at Paris Airports

Algerian Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for the national community abroad, Sofiane Chaib, summoned the French Ambassador to Algeria to express the Algerian government’s “strong protest” regarding the “provocative” treatment that Algerian nationals are reportedly facing at airports in Paris, according to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs.

“The Algerian government is deeply concerned about consistent reports from several Algerian nationals regarding provocative, degrading, and discriminatory treatment imposed on them by Border Police at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle and Orly airports,” the statement reads.

After confirming the validity of these claims, Chaib met with the French ambassador to convey the Algerian government’s firm protest against such utterly unacceptable actions.

“He reiterated Algeria’s absolute rejection of any infringement on the dignity of its citizens or any attempts to manipulate their circumstances as a means of pressure, provocation, or intimidation against their country,” the source added.

“The Secretary of State urged the ambassador to communicate to his government the urgent necessity of implementing all necessary measures to immediately put an end to these disgraceful actions and practices that tarnish the reputation of the French government,” the statement concluded.
