ALGIERS – The Algerian Government expressed “deep regret” and “strong concern” over the “tragic” clashes between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs said on Wednesday.
Following phone conversations between Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and his Indian and Pakistani counterparts, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Mohammad Ishaq Dar, respectively, Algeria urged restraint and called for a political and diplomatic solution to take precedence, according to the ministry.
“Algeria renews this call with greater urgency, as the outbreak of hostilities since Tuesday evening poses serious risks to the region’s peace and security,” the ministry stated.
“The most urgent priority today must be restraint, calmness, and a sense of responsibility to resume dialogue as the only solution likely to spare India, Pakistan, and their peoples a conflict they can and must avoid,” the ministry said.
