Algeria calls for strengthening Arab parliamentary action to oppose Zionist policies

The Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly and President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, Brahim Boughali, stressed on Saturday the importance of strengthening Arab parliamentary action in international forums to oppose illegal Zionist policies, maintain the Palestinian cause at the forefront of global attention, and coordinate with regional and international parliaments to prevent the passage of any measures that undermine Palestinian rights.
Speaking at the opening of the 7th conference of the Arab Parliament and heads of Arab councils and parliaments, Boughali noted that the conference, a joint effort between the Arab Parliament and the Arab Parliamentary Union, was being held at a critical time when the Palestinian cause faces serious threats aimed at its liquidation. He emphasised that Arab parliaments have a heightened responsibility to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and defend their legitimate rights by adopting an Arab parliamentary action plan to enhance this support and confront Zionist violations, according to a statement from the Algerian People’s National Assembly.
On this occasion, Boughali reaffirmed the need to unify the Arab position on the Palestinian issue, support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), condemn Judaisation and settlement activities, reject attempts to expel Palestinians, and uphold the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital, in line with international resolutions.
Regarding diplomatic efforts, Boughali disclosed that he had sent letters to the heads of international parliaments to raise awareness about the grave situation in Palestine. He called on the international community to fulfil its legal and ethical responsibilities, work to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories, including Syria and Lebanon, and reject foreign interventions in Arab affairs.
Boughali also affirmed Algeria’s full support for Syria’s unity and independence, rejecting foreign interventions and the economic sanctions imposed on the country. Moreover, he called for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations system, particularly the Security Council, to ensure greater justice and better representation of the interests of developing and Arab countries.
Concluding his speech, Boughali reiterated Algeria’s commitment, through its presidency of the Arab Parliamentary Union, to supporting efforts aimed at enhancing Arab solidarity and unifying ranks. He underscored the importance of Arab coordination at the 150th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s General Assembly and the need for a unified plan to present an emergency agenda item that serves the Palestinian cause. Additionally, he called for translating the conference’s recommendations into practical steps, expressing hope that the conference would achieve its intended goals in support of Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian cause.
