Algeria-Belarus Ties Gain Momentum as Leaders Push to Boost Bilateral Relations

Relations between Algeria and Belarus have seen in recent years a growing political and economic momentum marked by the strong will of the leaders of the two countries, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, to give new impetus to bilateral relations and to strengthen partnership and cooperation opportunities.

The official visit paid by the Belarusian president to Algeria on Tuesday will help further strengthen bilateral relations, built on trust and mutual respect, by advancing them to higher levels, particularly through new agreements and joint projects across various sectors.

The growing momentum in Algeria-Belarus relations is mirrored in the frequent high-level contacts, meetings and visits between officials from both countries.

In this regard, the Belarusian president has said in messages to the President of the Republic on several occasions that his country “seeks active political dialogue with Algeria and wishes to expand bilateral coordination across various fields, in the best interests of both peoples.”

President Tebboune received a congratulatory message from his Belarusian counterpart marking the 71st anniversary of the start of the glorious War of Liberation, in which the Belarusian president said that Algeria and Belarus today stand as “models to emulate through their active cooperation on the international stage, their unwavering support for the principles of national sovereignty and their rejection of policies based on pressure and sanctions.”

Ahead of this official visit, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received his Belarusian counterpart, Maxim Ryzhenkov, to review the current state and future prospects of cooperation and friendship between the two countries, as well as to finalize preparations for upcoming bilateral engagements that will give fresh momentum to these relations.

The Algerian-Belarusian Economic Forum, held Monday in Algiers, overseen by the Minister of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdelatif, and the Belarusian Minister of Anti-monopoly Regulation and Trade, Artur Karpovich, provided an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen economic partnerships and demonstrated both countries’ commitment to expanding trade cooperation and investment opportunities.
