Algeria: Arkab Meets Omani Ambassador and Suhail Bahwan Representative

Mohamed Arkab, Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, met with Saif Rashid Al-Badaai, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, who was accompanied by Saad Suhail Bahwan, a major shareholder in Suhail Bahwan Group Holding, according to a communiqué from the ministry.

The meeting was held at the ministry’s headquarters and included officials from both the ministry and the Sonatrach Group. This discussion is part of the follow-up to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman from October 28 to 30, 2024, during which the significance of enhancing strategic cooperation between the two countries was emphasized, as noted in the communiqué.

During their talks, the two parties reviewed the exceptional fraternal relations between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman in the fields of energy, mining, and renewable energies, exploring avenues to further strengthen these ties for mutual benefit.

They also examined the existing partnerships between Sonatrach and the Suhail Bahwan Group, particularly in the hydrocarbons and petrochemicals sectors. The discussions highlighted the production of fertilizers such as ammonia and urea and addressed the prospects for expanding investment in the Arzew fertilizer plant project located in Oran Province, the communiqué added.

Furthermore, the meeting delved into investment opportunities in Algeria, especially in sectors related to energy, mining, and renewable energies. They discussed the facilities and new legal and regulatory frameworks implemented by Algeria to encourage foreign investment and bolster strategic partnerships.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman, aiming to contribute to sustainable development and strengthen economic relations between the two brotherly nations, the communiqué stated.
