Algeria and Türkiye affirm commitment to strengthening partnership and enhancing political consultation

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, inaugurated on Monday the third session of the Algerian-Turkish Planning Committee, which he co-chaired with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
In his opening speech at the committee meeting held in Algiers, Attaf, citing the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that both sides, “while committed to strengthening this promising partnership in all its dimensions and aspects, are equally determined to uphold the tradition of political consultation and coordination on various current issues that lie at the heart of the interests of our two brotherly countries.”
Attaf, who highlighted Hakan Fidan’s inauguration of the Turkish Consulate General in Oran, said that “this new achievement is a prime symbol of what we have accomplished together. It also serves as a true measure of the strength, richness, and dynamism of Algerian-Turkish relations.” He added that “our ambition is renewed to elevate these relations to the highest standards and most distinguished levels, in line with the esteemed guidance of the leaders of our brotherly countries, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
Moreover, FM Attaf stated that the leaders of both countries have recognized that Algerian-Turkish relations cannot be reduced to simple terms, as they are deeply historical and rooted in shared spiritual and cultural bonds. He added that these are comprehensive and integrated relations, aimed at building bridges of cooperation between the two countries in various areas of political, economic, social, and cultural life. He emphasized that these are authentic, deeply rooted relations, genuinely intended to serve the goals and priorities they have jointly defined.
The Algerian minister emphasized that both sides must remain focused on the qualitative priorities and quantitative goals set by Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, following a path defined by rigor, clarity, and ambition. He stressed that it is their responsibility to overcome all obstacles—big and small—on the way to achieving the strategic objectives assigned to them, whether related to trade volume, the level of mutual investment, or cooperation across economic, social, and cultural sectors.
Additionally, Ahmed Attaf considered that the goal is to increase Turkish investments in Algeria from the 6 billion dollars achieved in 2024 in sectors such as steel, textiles, energy, and public works, to 10 billion dollars. He pointed out the investment opportunities offered by the Algerian economy in new areas, such as renewable energy, pharmaceutical industries, and other sectors, which the bilateral partnership and cooperation aim to expand into.
FM Attaf emphasized that the current global turmoil undoubtedly requires strengthening the political ties between the two countries, grounded in a steadfast commitment to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. He stressed the continuous effort to prioritize dialogue in resolving crises, conflicts, and wars. Furthermore, Attaf highlighted that his discussions with Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Algeria and Turkey’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s struggle, advocating for their rights and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with AlQuds as its capital.
During the talks, both sides confirmed their continued efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just, lasting, and final peace in the Middle East. This peace would not only ensure justice for the Palestinian people but also safeguard the national unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of both Lebanon and Syria. They noted that their role today is to plan for the upcoming stages and pave the way for their realization.
