Algeria affirms readiness to support efforts to unite the Syrian people

DAMASCUS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf was received on Saturday by the President of the Syrian Arab Republic in the transitional period, Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa, in the capital Damascus, as part of his visit as a special envoy of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

During the visit, the Algerian Minister of State delivered a written message to the Syrian president from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “extending his fraternal greetings and renewing his congratulations and best wishes for success in fulfilling his high duties during this critical phase in Syria’s history,” the statement said.

The meeting offered an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen the relations, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries, based on their long-standing historical ties, the source added.

The two sides also discussed recent developments at both national and regional levels, with the Minister of State emphasising Algeria’s readiness to contribute—both bilaterally and through its role as an Arab member in the UN Security Council—to support efforts aimed at uniting the Syrian people around a comprehensive national project that rebuilds state institutions and ensures security, stability, development, and prosperity, the statement concluded.
