Algeria Adds Silver and Bronze at Para-athletics Worlds

Algerian athletes Abdelhadi Boudra and Mohamed Nadjib Amchi claimed silver and bronze medals Wednesday at the Para-athletics World Championships in New Delhi.
Boudra, competing in his first world championships, won silver in the men’s 5,000m (T12-13), clocking 15:12.12. He finished behind Russian neutral athlete Aleksandr Kostin (15:08.97) and ahead of Brazil’s Jean Oliveira Da Silva (15:22.68).
“It was a tough race and not easy to secure a medal, but Abdelhadi managed his effort well,” said Algeria’s technical director Salim Boutebcha. “This is his first major podium. Congratulations to him.”
Amchi added bronze in the men’s shot put (F32) with an opening throw of 9.56m, repeating his bronze medal from the 2019 Dubai World Championships. The event was won by Uzbekistan’s Jasur Khodjaev (9.96m), with Greece’s Paralympic champion Athanasios Konstantinidis taking silver (9.65m).
Compatriots Walid Ferha (9.18m) and Ahmed Mehideb (8.85m) finished fifth and sixth.
After five days of competition, Algeria sit 19th in the medal table alongside Spain with six medals: two gold, two silver and two bronze.
The sixth day promises more chances, with defending champion Safia Djelal and Nassima Saifi contesting the women’s shot put (F57), while Mounia Gasmi lines up in the F32 final. Sprinters Mokhtar Didane and Fakhreddine Thelaidjia will also compete in the men’s 100m (T36) heats ahead of Friday’s final.
