2nd Edition of “Africa Global Impact Summit” Kicks Off Monday in Algiers

The second edition of the “Africa Global Impact Summit” (AGIS 2024) is set to take place from December 16 to 17 in Algiers, with the theme “Zero Carbon, Circular Economy, and Local Development at the Heart of Sustainable Transition in Africa,” as announced by the organizers on Wednesday.
Led by the ministries of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, alongside Environment and Quality of Life, AGIS 2024 aims to gather key stakeholders involved in Africa’s sustainable transition. Participants will engage in discussions around the challenges facing the continent and propose tangible solutions for sustainable development, stated Khalida Anad, director of GreenEco Algeria, the organizing company, during a press conference.
The event will be hosted at the Higher School of Hospitality and Catering in Algiers (ESHRA) and will focus on Africa and Algeria’s responses to climate change, strategies within the energy sector, and the pursuit of zero carbon emissions in African industries.
Additionally, the discussions will cover circular economy practices and resource efficiency across Africa, recent regulatory developments regarding ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria, the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), and their implications for corporate social responsibility (CSR). Other topics include sustainable financing in Africa, paradigm shifts in growth, and enhancing well-being for improved business performance.
Ali Harbi, president of the scientific committee for AGIS 2024, highlighted that Sonatrach, the national oil company, will present its climate strategy, while the Algerian Cement Industrial Group (GICA) will share its experiences in environmental preservation. Algeria Packaging is also expected to showcase its initiatives in the circular economy.
Experts from both national and international backgrounds specializing in CSR and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—including representatives from the CSR think tank in Africa, the International Organization of Chief Financial Officers, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa—will facilitate discussions on these critical themes, he further elaborated.
