NIGELEC Technical Team in Algeria for Integrated Training at Sonelgaz-Services

ALGIERS, March 3, 2026 – A technical team from Niger’s national electricity company NIGELEC arrived Tuesday in Algiers to undertake integrated training with the subsidiary Sonelgaz-Services, according to a statement from Algeria’s public utility group Sonelgaz.

The team will follow a three-week integrated training program at the School of Electricity and Gas Engineering Trades in Adrar, which operates under Sonelgaz-Services. The training aims to provide the expertise necessary to operate the power plants that Algeria plans to build in Niger, in line with directives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to strengthen Algerian-Nigerien cooperation, following the visit to Algeria last February by Niger’s president.

As part of the visit program, a preparatory meeting was held for the Nigerien delegation at the Training School for Management in Ben Aknoun. A presentation was delivered on the services provided by Sonelgaz-Services, followed by a visit to the national electricity system control center, where explanations were given regarding grid management and control systems, the statement added.

This step follows a series of preparatory measures aimed at advancing cooperation, including a videoconference meeting between officials of both companies to examine ways to accelerate partnership efforts and finalize agreements under review.

The initiative is also part of the program of Algeria’s Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, implemented through Sonelgaz to relaunch cooperation with NIGELEC in several areas, including strengthening Niger’s electricity network and transferring Algerian expertise through training services.

Previously, a delegation of technical experts from Sonelgaz traveled to Niamey in connection with the power plant construction project and to provide technical and logistical support to NIGELEC.

During that visit, a joint action plan was adopted and two teams were established, representing the ministry, Sonelgaz, and NIGELEC, to accelerate project implementation and ensure coordination among stakeholders.
