Burkina Faso Launches Humanitarian Plan for 4.4 Million Vulnerable People in 2026

The government of Burkina Faso has introduced a national humanitarian response plan (PNRH) for 2026, valued at nearly F.CFA 769.8 billion (approximately USD 1.4 billion) for more than 4.4 million vulnerable people, local media reported Wednesday, citing the Ministry of Family and Solidarity.
The 4.4 million vulnerable people include around 2.2 million host community members, 1.2 million internally displaced persons, 902,042 returnees and 41,979 refugees, according to the source.
The ministry noted that the sectoral priorities focus on food security and nutrition, health, protection, water, hygiene and sanitation, education in emergencies, as well as shelters and vital household items.
The Resident Representative of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Burkina Faso and Humanitarian Coordinator, Maurice Azonnankpo, pledged the mobilization of USD 658.5 million from the humanitarian community to provide emergency assistance to 2.7 million people.
