Algeria’s Ouadah Urges Stronger Continental Cooperation Leveraging African Start-Up Conference Gains

ALGIERS, Feb 17 – Algeria’s Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-Ups and Micro-Enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, urged deeper continental cooperation at a high-level session of the Africa Business Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, saying the forum should build on gains from the African Start-Up Conference hosted by Algeria. The forum is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on the sidelines of the African Union Summit, serving as a key platform for investment, partnerships and job creation across the continent.

Speaking on Monday, Ouadah called for stronger cooperation across Africa using “mechanisms stemming from earlier editions of the African Start-Up Conference,” a ministry statement said.

In his address, he stressed the need for Africa to shift from exporting raw materials to creating high-value goods by encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation and expanding the use of modern technologies.

He also called for expanded digital infrastructure and urged the continent to embrace artificial intelligence and agricultural technology to ensure food security and achieve sustainable growth.

Ouadah presented Algeria’s experience in promoting start-ups and innovation as a key driver in transitioning from an economy reliant on hydrocarbons to a knowledge-based economy.
