Trump Invites Xi Jinping to Visit US as Both Leaders Continue Diplomatic Engagements

Chinese President Xi Jinping has been invited by US President Donald Trump to visit the United States later this year, likely in August or September, according to US Ambassador to China David Perdue. Xi has also extended an invitation to Trump to visit China in April, signaling mutual interest in strengthening bilateral ties.
Perdue noted that both countries have largely implemented agreements reached during last year’s meetings, including cooperation on fentanyl control and soybean purchases, reflecting tangible progress in pragmatic collaboration. He highlighted that, for the first time, law enforcement agencies from the US and China have worked directly together to combat fentanyl trafficking, describing the level of engagement between the two leaders as marked by respect and trust.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent added that Trump and Xi could meet as many as four times this year in different settings. Since Trump’s inauguration, the leaders of the world’s two largest economies have maintained several contacts, including a successful face-to-face meeting in Busan, South Korea, and multiple phone calls. Upcoming international events, including China hosting the APEC summit in Shenzhen and Trump hosting the G20 in Florida, provide additional opportunities for interaction.
