Algeria and IAEA Sign Joint Statement to Boost Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Monday via video conferencing with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi.

These talks are part of the follow-up on the implementation of what was agreed upon between the two parties during the official visit of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Algeria last October, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

At the conclusion of these talks, the two sides signed a “Joint Statement on Cooperation between Algeria and the Agency in the Field of Peaceful Applications of Nuclear Science and Technology,” the source said, adding that the statement aims to strengthen technical assistance from the Agency to Algeria, particularly through conducting a study on the development of peaceful applications of nuclear energy in the fields of electricity generation, healthcare, seawater desalination, and agriculture.
