Algeria and Oman Move to Expand Economic Cooperation

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman, Saoud bin Hamoud Al-Habsi, stated on Thursday in Oran that economic cooperation between Oman and Algeria is entering a more dynamic phase, focused on concrete investment projects.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 10th edition of the International Exhibition of Fisheries and Aquaculture “SIPA 2025”, the Omani Minister said that his country’s participation as guest of honor reflects the continuation of a growing economic partnership with Algeria, which gained new momentum following bilateral agreements signed in 2025.

Al-Habsi recalled that the agreements concluded during the visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to Algeria in May 2025 marked “a major economic turning point”, notably through the signing of two executive programs and a memorandum of understanding in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The Minister emphasized that the development of joint investment projects is now an economic priority for both countries, adding that discussions are underway to establish an Omani-Algerian company specialized in the manufacture of agricultural and maritime equipment and in the development of aquaculture projects.

He added that cooperation could also extend to areas such as product quality control, development of production technologies and exchange of expertise in desert agriculture. He described these projects as “highly profitable”, capable of generating jobs, increasing production capacity in both countries and strengthening their food security.

Al-Habsi also underlined that Algeria is a major economic partner in North Africa, noting that the Sultanate of Oman is keen to expand its investment projects with Algeria in the maritime and agricultural sectors.

According to the Minister, the “SIPA 2025” exhibition provides a concrete platform for establishing partnerships and identifying cooperation opportunities between economic operators from both countries.

Finally, he noted that Oman’s fisheries sector has become an important source of added value, thanks to an integrated production chain covering fishing, aquaculture, processing, export and marketing.
