Gabon: President Nguema’s Party Wins Second Round of Legislative Elections

The Union démocratique des bâtisseurs (UDB), the party of Gabon’s incumbent president Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has won the second round of legislative elections held on October 11, according to local media reports on Wednesday.
“The results of the polls across the country were published in L’Union, Gabon’s official newspaper. According to these results, President Nguema’s party secured 52 seats in the first round on September 27 and 50 more in the second round on October 11,” the same sources indicated.
With a total of 102 seats out of 145 in the National Assembly, the UDB now holds a commanding majority, representing about 70% of all lawmakers.
The Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) of former president Ali Bongo Ondimba won 16 seats—five in the first round and eleven in the second—while the Rassemblement pour la Patrie et la Modernité (RPM) obtained three seats. Both the Union nationale (UN) and Société des Démocrates Gabonais (SDG) secured two seats each, with smaller parties taking one seat apiece.
