Sonatrach Joins World Energy Week at Osaka Expo 2025

Algeria’s state-owned energy company Sonatrach is taking part in the “World Energy Week” being held September 17–28 in Osaka, Japan, as part of Expo 2025, the group said Wednesday.
Organized under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the event brings together government officials, international organizations and leading energy players to discuss challenges, opportunities and innovative solutions to accelerate a sustainable energy transition, the company said in a statement.
Sonatrach’s “remarkable and exceptional” participation alongside the Algerian delegation reflects Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its role in the global energy sector and to helping shape a clean, safe and sustainable future, according to the statement.
The company highlighted its role as a “reliable strategic supplier” of energy, while positioning itself as an international partner open to innovation and clean energy, notably through renewable energy and green hydrogen projects.
On this occasion, Sonatrach executives Youcef Khanfar, director of green and renewable energies, and Abdelkader Fodil Cherif, head of environment at the Central Health, Safety and Environment Directorate, took part in a high-level technical meeting on boosting the shift to clean alternatives such as green hydrogen and renewables.
The discussions also addressed ways to strengthen food and water security through investments in green energy and fertilizer production, as well as ensuring access to clean water via desalination and recycling.
According to the statement, Algeria will host a dedicated “Algerian Energy Week” during the event, showcasing the country’s achievements in energy, food and water security, and highlighting its strategy to diversify energy sources and move towards a more sustainable model.
