Algeria-Venezuela: Expert-Level Preparatory Meeting Ahead of 5th Joint Commission

ALGIERS- A preparatory meeting at the expert level was held Wednesday, in Algiers, as a prelude to the 5th Algerian-Venezuelan joint governmental commission on economic, commercial, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, scheduled for Thursday.

The works of the meeting, which saw the participation of experts from both countries representing several ministerial departments, was co-chaired by Ahmed Hachemi, director general for America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, and Yuri Pimentel, vice-minister in charge of Africa at the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Relations of Venezuela.

In his speech, Hachemi highlighted the will of the leaders of both countries to preserve the dynamics of the Algerian-Venezuelan relations and to raise the level of economic and commercial exchanges and investments to the level of the excellence of political relations between the two countries.

He noted that political coordination between Algeria and Venezuela had reached, in recent years, “its highest level,” in light of the convergence of views on several international and regional issues of common interest.

The results of this meeting’s works, he said, should contribute to strengthening the legal framework of bilateral cooperation and favor the execution of partnership and cooperation projects.

In this regard, Hachemi emphasized the importance of speeding up the implementation of the Algerian-Venezuelan Business Council, as an appropriate framework for relaunching economic and commercial cooperation, calling for intensifying commercial exchanges and investments and lifting the obstacles hindering their development.

Characterizing the Algerian-Venezuelan relations as an “exemplary model for cooperation among Global South countries,” he commended the robust political dialogue between the two countries, evidenced by frequent diplomatic visits and bilateral consultations within international forums.

For his part, Pimentel highlighted the depth of historical relations between the two countries in various fields, adding that bilateral exchanges had made it possible to unify visions on the international scene, to promote South-South cooperation and to defend the principles of international law through a foreign policy based on solidarity and fraternity.

An approach that has been strengthened under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolas Maduro, he added.
