EU Official Praises Djamaâ El-Djazaïr’s Role in Promoting Dialogue and Common Values

ALGIERS – The Rector of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hoceini, received the Director General for the Middle East, North Africa, and Gulf coutries at the European Commission, Stefano Sannino, according to a communiqué issued by the Rectorate on Wednesday.

During this meeting, held on Tuesday in the presence of the European Union Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Mellado Pascua, the Rector reviewed the Mosque’s missions describing it as a “unifying institution that aims to spread religious

and social peace.”

The Rector further emphasized its role in anchoring middle-ground principles of the national religious referent,” added the source.

Djamaâ El-Djazaïr is a “space where common human values are taught and a place that gathers people from the Mediterranean to discuss issues related to belief, religion, and culture,” said Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hoceini.

In this regard, he stressed “the importance of building trust to ensure a lasting dialogue, through mutual respect and recognition of the nations’ cultural specifities and higher interests.

“Djamaâ El-Djazaïr seeks cooperation with EU research centers in the service of mutual understanding,” he added.

Referring to the struggle of the Palestinians under the Zionist occupation, the Rector of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr called on the countries to “defend the just causes,” particularly the Palestinian and Sahrawi ones.

For hispart, Sannino praised “the civilizational message carried by Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, its balanced speech based on common human values, and its efforts in favor of fruitful dialogue between cultures and civilizations.

The European official said that his visit to Algeria was aimed at “strengthening the European Union’s relations with Algeria and countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean.”

He further highlighted the European Union’s efforts ” to develop these bilateral relations in the service of Algerian and the EU.”
