Pharmaceutical Industry in Algeria : Great Strides Made in Last Few Years

BOUIRA (Algeria)- Pharmaceutical industry and medicine manufacturing in Algeria has made “great strides” over the past few years, through projects launched in various regions, the minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Ouacim Kouidri said Tuesday in Bouira.

The minister t-old reporters on the sidelines of a visit to Bouira that he was “very happy” with the potential and the pharmaceutical projects being carried in the province, stressing the need to encourage operators and industrialists to invest in the manufacture of medical devices, as well as chemical inputs and products.

“Algeria is importing 129,000 pharmaceutical products, and we should encourage operators to invest in the field for their production in Algeria.

“We can produce many reagents (in Algeria) to reduce the bill of imports,” said Kouidri, who inspected, in Oued El Bardi, the plants of Rosaspharm and Magpharm, specialized in the pharmaceutical industry, producing some 200 reagents.

The minister said he is “optimistic” about this challenge, which “the industrialists and operators may easily meet, through Algeria’s potential in terms of human skills and resources.”
