Five Children Killed in RSF Attack in North Darfur, Sudanese Army Reports

The Sudanese army announced on Thursday that five children were killed and four women injured in an indiscriminate attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

According to a military statement, RSF fighters targeted multiple areas in the city, prompting the army to conduct a sweep operation, during which it seized two RSF combat vehicles. Despite the casualties, the army claimed that the security situation in El-Fasher remained stable. The RSF has not commented on the allegations.

El-Fasher serves as a key humanitarian hub for the Darfur region, where fighting between the army and RSF has escalated since April 2023. While the army has recently gained ground in Khartoum and other regions, RSF forces still control most of Darfur. The conflict has claimed over 20,000 lives, with US research suggesting the real toll could be as high as 130,000, and has displaced 15 million people.
